- ➤ God’s Kitchen of Michigan will serve three free Christmas dinners next week. Two are scheduled on Wednesday in Battle Creek timed 5–6 p.m. and 5:30–6:30 p.m., and one will be held on Thursday in Kalamazoo at Kanley Chapel on the WMU campus from 5 to 6 p.m. WKZO
- ➤ Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage and renovated the home for KDPS officer Maher, injured in 2022, as part of its 2025 Season of Hope delivering 50 mortgage-free homes between Dec. 1 and Christmas Eve with ADA-compliant upgrades (doors, ramps, and smart home features). WKZO

- ➤ Nina's Taqueria in Augusta, which has served customers for 27 years, will close on Friday, Dec. 19 — its sister restaurant in Battle Creek remains open. MLive
- ➤ The ‘Zoo Scoop opened on Black Friday at 3262 Stadium Drive, offering 32 ice cream flavors, paninis, wraps and dirty sodas in a locally-owned inviting setting. Owner Bradley Romstadt said his eatery brings a unique taste of Kalamazoo tradition with a triple scoop priced at $5. MLive

- ➤ Yesterday, Bronson Park hosted free holiday activities by local groups starting at 5:30 p.m. The event featured a Holly Jolly Trolley ride, Santa visiting the Kalamazoo Mall until 8 p.m., letter writing to Santa, hot chocolate, & holiday craft bags for the first 300 attendees. WWMT

- ➤ Frigid weather is expected this weekend, and the City of Kalamazoo has opened warming shelters for overnight and daytime use + facilities in Kalamazoo and Portage will provide relief until March. Mobile support is available for those experiencing cold-related challenges. WWMT
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, Dec. 24, the American Red Cross will hold its 40th Holiday Blood Drive at the Radisson Plaza Hotel (100 W. Michigan Ave.). Appointments run from 7 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and donors can receive a $15 Amazon Gift Card for donations made through Dec. 18. WKZO
- ➤ Family Health Center updated its sterilization protocols after a missed step exposed a small group of patients and is urging them to get free HIV and hepatitis tests at 505 East Alcott St., while county and state health agencies were notified. MLive
- ➤ Hundreds of retired nurses from the former Ascension Borgess Hospital face uncertain Medigap coverage as Beacon Health System did not assume the benefit during its acquisition; the benefit will end Dec. 31 and retirees are advised to contact Ascension for more details. WWMT
