- ➤ Kalamazoo is gaining attention as a destination for seniors and disabled visitors with 131 certified accessible locations—restaurants, hotels and attractions—announced by Discover Kalamazoo. The group is partnering with Wheel of the World to help spread the word. WKZO
- ➤ Beacon Kalamazoo lit its Tree of Love on Thursday night to honor breast cancer survivors, patients, donors and health care workers during its 40th annual ceremony. Community members can donate to hang a pink ornament on the tree + help pay for mammograms. WWMT
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A Mattawan family lost their home, pets, and Christmas gifts in a fire on Thursday morning when first responders saved them (two cats were rescued while two remain missing) and now they stay in a hotel as their property manager looks for a new local home. WWMT
- ➤ A residential fire in the West Point Hills neighborhood claimed four cats on Thursday morning, with firefighters rescuing two + the Red Cross assisting displaced residents while investigators probe the cause. WWMT
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A 79-year-old Kalamazoo woman claimed a $3 million Mega Millions prize after buying tickets at JJ Land LLC, 4421 West Centre Ave in Portage on Nov. 14. She said the 3x multiplier turned her win from $1 million into $3 million and plans to save her winnings. WKZO
- ➤ Local small businesses in Kalamazoo have seen a steep drop in job applications even as layoffs hit levels not seen since COVID-19, according to reports from Challenger, Gray & Christmas. Blue Dolphin owner Steve Stamos encouraged local job seekers to apply as the worker shortage strains operations. WWMT

- ➤ WMU's Board of Trustees approved housing and dining rate increases for fall 2026, including new rates for Golden Oaks Residence Hall opening next year and adjusted costs (a 5.5% decrease for single halls) to help families plan.
