- ➤ A Michigan lawmaker is pushing new rules to regulate synthetic kratom—often called gas station heroin—after reports emerged of minors misusing the product. House Bill 4969, which requires buyers be 21 and mandates proper packaging and labeling, passed committee and will soon be considered by the full House. WWMT
- ➤ Today, Kalamazoo’s Ministry with Community began an emergency housing plan that keeps its daytime shelter open into the night to add 80 extra beds+ hotel rooms for the medically vulnerable when temperatures drop. Officials say the plan, funded with $750,000 by the city, county and United Way’s Continuum of Care, will run until March 31 while they work on a five-year strategy to help more homeless residents. - ➤ Plow crews in Kalamazoo County have been clearing snow from secondary roads after heavy weekend snowfall, and city workers have been operating 12-hour shifts on major routes. City and county teams plan to pass neighborhood streets by about 8 a.m. today—residents are advised to drive slow and keep 200 feet behind the plows—until cleanup is complete. WWMT
- ➤ On Monday night, about 3,100 people in Arcadia and Knollwood lost power near Western Michigan University due to an equipment issue—Consumers Energy said power will be restored by 4 a.m. Tuesday. WWMT
