- ➤ Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes at 901 Portage St.—a local food pantry—is preparing extra shifts and ordering more food to help when the recent SNAP benefit pause left 35,183 residents without their usual aid. The pantry will also meet with community partners as it opens more food appointments for those in need. MLive
- ➤ Maureen is a lively three-month-old puppy waiting for adoption at the SPCA of Southwest Michigan — she is known for her energetic and affectionate behavior and is expected to find her forever home soon. WWMT
- ➤ Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries limited emergency shelter stays to 120 days and reduced beds to 140 on Oct. 6—forcing nearly 300 people, including Nick Hawkins, to sleep outside in the rain. The shelter cleared its waitlist by Oct. 10 and local officials noted a 19% rise in homelessness as plans for a new family shelter are underway. MLive

- ➤ Kalamazoo’s Homer-Stryker Field turned red on Saturday when nearly 500 people joined the 2025 Kalamazoo Heart Walk to promote CPR training and raise funds for heart health. The funds reached just over $120,000 of a $150,000 goal — aimed at strengthening bystander preparedness and boosting research to save lives. WWMT
