- ➤ Target on West Main in Kalamazoo hosted a midnight release of Taylor Swift's album The Life of a Showgirl where fans lined up for exclusive physical copies — including a limited edition vinyl called The Crowd Is Your King edition. - ➤ Comstock Township officials reported a marked rise in homeless encampments since summer—residents have complained about litter along King Highway and cleanup efforts have become more frequent. - ➤ State lawmakers approved a school aid omnibus bill on Oct. 2 that will raise per-student funds by 4.6% and restore $321 million for mental health, safety, and school meal needs—part of a $21B plan for K-12 schools. - ➤ The downtown McDonald's closed its drive-thru at 224 W. Kalamazoo Ave. to clear the way for demolition as Kalamazoo County bought the site for $9 million to build a larger administration building using adjacent land—officials said that detailed plans for the new facility are pending. MLive
