GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local organizations in Kalamazoo warned that the House budget proposal passed last month—cutting $4 million from victim services and reducing overall funding by $6 billion—could force 68% of nonprofits to cut critical community programs if signed before Oct. 1. Leaders fear these cuts will jeopardize shelter, legal, and advocacy support for vulnerable residents. WWMT

Small business groups say the tax may hurt them and have begun campaigning against the proposal. WKZO
- ➤ Crews broke ground this week on a $60M water system overhaul in Kalamazoo—this project will build a new $50M treatment facility and replace old water mains. Work will continue in phases with traffic detours and is expected to complete by late 2028 to provide cleaner, safer water. WWMT

Gavyn Boyer returned home from South Korea on September 7 at Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport after serving two-and-a-half years as a satellite communications operator—he was welcomed by his wife, daughter, and extended family.
