- ➤ A 34-year-old man, Daniel Ray Partee, was arrested in Florida by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, August 24 — for an open murder warrant linked to the 2023 Kalamazoo homicide of 43-year-old Kunta Tavarius Davis, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. MLive

- ➤ At the Kalamazoo Balloon Fest held Friday, August 22 at Gull Meadow Farms, pilot James Loiselle flew his rainbow-colored balloon 'Lucky' 1,000 feet above local farms and Sherman Lake. Local onlookers enjoyed the show—kids jumped and farmers paused as pilots honored tradition by offering champagne to homeowners after landing. MLive

- ➤ Western Michigan University unveiled an expanded walkway before classes began this week, turning a former parking lot into a park-like space with grass, sidewalk, and hammock pods near The Oaklands bed and breakfast — the $5.6 million project runs from the Gathering Tree statue to the intersection of Ring Road North and Michigan Avenue — and expands behind the WMU administration building.
