CRIME NEWS

  • Commissioner Stephanie Hoffman’s Northside home was hit by three bullets early on Aug. 15 during a stray car shootout—she urged the city to take stronger action against gun violence.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The TSA PreCheck Enrollment Event at Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport — originally set for August 19-23 — has been postponed to October 7-10. It will run in the terminal on Portage Road from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a lunch break from Noon to 1:00 p.m., where travelers must bring the required documents for their in-person appointment.  WKZO
  • Amtrak says it will issue refunds to passengers who were stuck on a train near Battle Creek last week due to a sensor error. The train was coming from Chicago to Dearborn — passengers were later bused to their destinations after the stop and Amtrak reviewed the issue with the Michigan Department of Transportation.  WKZO

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Heritage Community of Kalamazoo bought 13.35 acres in Texas Township for $1.2 million to build The Halstead, a new luxury project for people 55 and older that is expected to open in 2028. The villas will have open-concept layouts in every corner unit and range from 1,400 to 2,200 square feet—designed to blend apartment ease with the space of a townhome.  WWMT
