ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A car crashed into the Highpoint Community Bank building on Michigan Avenue today, closing the road from Portage Street to South Edwards Street+ KDPS crews are clearing the area while officials have not confirmed any injuries+. WWMT
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Construction crews began long-awaited repairs on the ring road at Crossroads Mall to improve safety, ease traffic, and enhance the visitor experience—green section work took place on August 5 and August 6 and red section repairs are scheduled for August 13 and August 14. WWMT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A woman reported that an acquaintance assaulted her and robbed her of her dog and purse near Henning Street and East Michigan Avenue in Comstock Township early Tuesday, Aug. 5—sheriff’s deputies, state police, and Portage and Kalamazoo Township police are now searching for the 48-year-old suspect. - ➤ Kalamazoo County sheriff's deputies responded around 1 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 in the 3700 block of East G Avenue in Cooper Township after a man reported that his girlfriend stabbed him with a knife and left him with a substantial cut — deputies used a drone and worked with local firefighters as they searched for the missing suspect. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city of Kalamazoo is using a hexagonal antenna attached to a helicopter to map aquifers under more than 1,400 acres for its water system. Water program manager Jean Talanda said planners will use the data to drill new test wells as officials expect finalized findings in about eight weeks. WKZO
- ➤ Kalamazoo City Commissioners Wilson and Decker spent a week in Numazu, Japan—visiting local sites with host families and learning from a city marked by clean streets and very little homelessness. Wilson said the trip, organized without city funding, showed lessons in environmental care that may influence Kalamazoo’s practices. MLive
