ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Jim Jager, who drives his 36-foot RV, said a driver drifting over the centerline led to a head-on crash that killed a Kalamazoo woman.  MLive

CRIME NEWS

  • Bernard Murff Jr., 29, was arrested in connection to Fourth of July shootings in Kalamazoo that killed Leetrail Lamont Bible, 34, and injured seven people after officers found him with a stolen .45 caliber handgun during an apartment search on West Lovell Street—he faces charges for carrying a concealed weapon, possession by a prohibited person and felony firearm violations and will return to court on Aug. 5.  WWMT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • USDA data shows beef prices have risen nearly 9% since January — local stores in Kalamazoo now list ground beef from $3.99 to $7.49 per pound and steaks up to $16.99 per pound.  WWMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers face a detour at the Westnedge and Kalamazoo Avenues intersection, which closed at 7 p.m. Friday and remains closed for water main, sewer, and pedestrian upgrades. Developers at the Kalamazoo Event Center are adding $6.6 million—matched by the city's $6.5 million—to reduce traffic impacts during the project.  MLive
