ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 51-year-old Kalamazoo woman died after her SUV crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an RV on North Riverview Drive in Cooper Township on July 20 (alcohol is believed to be a factor), and the RV's driver and passenger sustained minor injuries. WWMT
- ➤ A 4-year-old boy almost drowned Saturday on East 88th Street when he was found face down in water and state trooper Casey Deater used CPR until the child began coughing and spitting water — he was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover fully. WWMT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Kalamazoo Public Safety Chief Dave Boysen said police arrested 10 teen suspects and seized 10 firearms after four shootings on July 4 that left one man dead and seven injured—authorities first attempted mediation before using enforcement. WKZO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Candidates for the Kalamazoo City Commission must file by 4 p.m. today by submitting affidavits and 50 valid signatures—officials will finalize the list of contenders later today while the election is set for November 4. WKZO
- ➤ Yesterday, state and local leaders toured a $19M U.S. 131 expansion project that will reduce traffic in Kalamazoo neighborhoods and improve access to downtown. Crews began work on Feb. 17 and are building a 334-foot bridge with one ramp finished+ the project is set to complete on Nov. 7. MLive
- ➤ State Representative Julie Rogers from Kalamazoo announced yesterday that she is running for the 19th District state Senate seat as incumbent Sean McCann runs for Congress+ she served as ranking member on House Appropriation Subcommittees for Medicaid, Behavioral Health and Veteran and Military Affairs and chaired the Health Policy Committee last term.
