ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, July 8th, a worker trapped in a flooded below ground vault near a water tower in Comstock Township was rescued by Comstock Fire & Rescue after an above ground attendant saved him and firefighters quickly extinguished a fire at a suppression pump while the Kalamazoo Water Department shut off a water main that led to a boil water advisory.  WWMT
  • Police in Kalamazoo responded to the Okinawan Karate Academy on South Westnedge Ave on Wednesday night when a light-colored SUV crashed into the building shortly before 11 p.m.—it is not known if anyone was injured or what caused the crash.  WWMT

  • Hot n' Now, the iconic drive-thru that started in Kalamazoo, will expand beyond its last Sturgis location as Gun Lake Investments and owner Jeff Konczak plan to open restaurants in Wayland this summer and in Alpena in October. The Wayland location, built behind Noonday Market—across from Gun Lake Casino, will offer wallet-friendly pricing and signature items like the Olive Burger and Cheesy Taters.  WWMT

CRIME NEWS

  • Michigan State Police Sergeant Kellie Gillam-Shaffer accidentally shot herself at a local Costco when her gun discharged from her purse—triggering a brief panic among shoppers—and was found not guilty of a misdemeanor charge for reckless use of a firearm on July 7th.  MLive

  • Former WWMT host Della DiPietro began her career in 1980 as the station's women's director — she hosted lifestyle programs, co-anchored newscasts, worked at Ford reporting on the automotive industry for three decades, and now serves as a performance coach while also acting as an Ann Arbor Township trustee and treasurer.  WWMT
