- ➤ A famed burger chain known for its wallet friendly menu is returning to Michigan with two new locations—one in Wayland opening this summer near Gun Lake Casino and one in Alpena set to open in October. The 737 square foot drive thru building is built with a plug and play design by B Cubed Manufacturing to serve classic menu items and extended operating hours. MLive
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Kalamazoo man, 26-year-old Devonte Edwards, was arraigned on Tuesday on six charges including one count of child sexual abuse, two counts of using a computer to commit a crime, one count of possession of child sexually explicit material and two counts of criminal sexual conduct following his July 3 arrest (the alleged incidents occurred on March 8) with his bond set at $250,000 (the prosecution had requested $500,000) and he will return for a probable cause hearing on July 16 and a preliminary examination on July 23. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kalamazoo officials issued a boil water advisory for parts of the city, Comstock Township, and Portage after a private fire line separation at Midlink Business Park on Tuesday reduced water pressure. Affected residents must boil water or use bottled water until the advisory is lifted on July 11+ tests have not detected bacteria+ the measure is precautionary. WWMT
- ➤ During Monday night’s meeting, Kalamazoo city commissioners discussed a $101-million bond sale to fund upgrades for the city’s water utility systems + the improvements will replace water mains, consolidate pumping stations, and replace lead pipes. Commissioners Chris Praedel and Quiana Decker called the move necessary, while director Steve Vicenzi noted a favorable borrowing rate and Dave Anderson called it a smart investment. WKZO
- ➤ The city of Kalamazoo will soon join county officials in talks to decide who will manage a new youth sports complex and serve on its authority board—hoteliers and government agencies are among the stakeholders already collecting a 4% hotel guest fee for the project. Discover Kalamazoo’s Jane Ghosh said projected revenue is expected to cover any initial operating deficit. WKZO
- ➤ Work to reroute Arcadia Creek began on July 7 on Westnedge Avenue; the road is closed between Michikal Street and Michigan Avenue until Aug. 15—drivers follow a posted detour along Michikal Street. Work between Michikal Street and Water Street will continue until the end of 2025 as part of the $13M Phase 0 project—further work is planned through June 2026. MLive
- ➤ Kalamazoo city commission reviewed plans to revamp the downtown Arcadia Creek Festival Site that include improved walkability, flexible event spaces and an expanded playground and splash pad—Assistant City Manager Rebekah Kik said the city will open bids for the project in summer 2026. WKZO

- ➤ After health officials confirmed a Jamestown Canyon Virus case in Kalamazoo County earlier this month, the City of Portage is urging residents to take precautions by using insect repellent and wearing long sleeves — eliminating standing water to reduce mosquito breeding — as temperatures remain high.
