Good morning, Kalamazoo.

Dozens gathered Tuesday to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new El Sol Magnet School in Kalamazoo Township at the former Brucker Elementary site on Baker Drive, where the $54 million project will take two years to complete and open in fall 2028 with an English and Spanish immersion program.

Kalamazoo environmental officials issued a no contact order for Davis Creek — between Miller Road and the Kalamazoo River — after about 10,000 gallons of wastewater overflowed from a broken pipe near Emerald Drive shortly before 2 p.m. Monday, and Emerald Drive was closed for cleanup.
