ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Allegan County Sheriff's Office said multiple patients had serious injuries after a northbound pickup truck crashed into an SUV pulling from a private driveway near Pullman on Saturday night, June 14th+ the SUV flipped after hitting a tree+ and injured people were taken to hospitals as officials investigate speed and alcohol.  WKZO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Nearly all staff at Biggby Coffee at 4560 W. Main Street quit after two coworkers were fired in solidarity, with former employees alleging a long pattern of abusive language and unsafe work conditions — management repeatedly disregarded employee safety.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • From June 13 through June 15, over 175 dog breeds competed at the UKC (United Kennel Club) Premier Nationals Dog Show held at the Kalamazoo Expo Center and Fairgrounds, with free admission for all attendees. Organizers said the event showcased the Total Dog philosophy that combines a dog's beauty with its ability to perform its traditional functions.  WWMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City leaders unveiled a new roadmap today to transform downtown Kalamazoo with plans to improve walkability, safety and business support— the first phase runs through 2027. The Downtown Development Authority and Downtown Economic Growth Authority will track key improvements like better signage, enhanced waste services and upgraded public spaces with funding from tax increment financing, grants and private partnerships.  WWMT
  • Ed's engine, a fire truck memorializing late Chief Ed Switalski, is scheduled to return to the community next week after being repaired following a December 12th crash on an I-94 on-ramp that injured two responders and totaled the truck. Comstock Fire Rescue officials said the final repairs and inspection were completed a few days before the 8th anniversary of his passing—honoring his enduring legacy in service.  WWMT
