  • Michigan’s first QuikTrip closed on a property at 3810 E. Cork St. on May 29, replacing a former restaurant, and plans to demolish the building for a Generation 4 store with 16 pumps once permits are approved. The new site will serve local commuters and highway travelers.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts will host its 75th annual KIA Arts Fair at Bronson Park from Friday, June 5 (3pm–8pm) to Saturday, June 6 (9am–5pm). The two-day cultural event features free gallery admission + family-friendly activities with added seating for relaxation.  WWMT
  • News Channel 3 invites residents to vote for its May Photo of the Month contest featuring eight submissions of local scenes, including swans, sunsets, and flyovers; the poll closes Friday at 2 p.m. (results will be announced Monday).  WWMT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Portage Central girls soccer beat Battle Creek Lakeview 4-1 on Saturday, May 30, with Lily Grueter scoring two late goals — one coming from a deflection off her left knee — to win the district championship and push the team to a regional semifinal on June 2 at their home field.  MLive
  • Mattawan's baseball team shut out Kalamazoo Central, 8-0 (on Saturday, May 30) to claim the Division 1 district title with Kaden Jominy pitching a four-inning no-hitter that extended their postseason shutout run. The Wildcats will meet Lowell in the regional semifinal at Loy Norrix on Wednesday.  MLive
