ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, May 27, Comstock Township firefighters responded within three minutes to a garage fire in the 5000 block of Gull Road where crews from Kalamazoo and Kalamazoo Township helped extinguish the flames; the fire began shortly after 9 a.m. and destroyed the structure with no injuries reported, and investigators say it was likely accidental. - ➤ Montine Wiley Sr., the father of a slain victim, charged at his son's alleged killer during a preliminary hearing at Kalamazoo County District Court on May 22 and spent the night in jail for contempt — the Prosecutor’s Office said it is asking the Attorney General’s Office to review the case for potential charges. - ➤ Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to an unknown incident at Canterbury House Apartments on May 27th, with units from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Michigan State Police, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office and Western Michigan University Public Safety on scene and drone and dog units deployed. - ➤ The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Tuesday awarded $40,920 to the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Food Innovation Center to help strengthen the state’s middle-of-the-supply-chain agri-food system — the center is an education hub, urban farm and food hub built in collaboration with Bronson Healthcare and Integrated Services of Kalamazoo.
