  • Thousands lost power on the west side when a contractor accidentally struck a power supply near South Drake Road and Stonebrooke Ave on Thursday — Consumers Energy crews were dispatched with an estimated restoration time of 3 p.m.  WWMT

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts announced six exhibitions running from May through Feb., including Resilience — A Sansei Sense of Legacy, which examines Japanese American internment from a third-generation view. The museum offers free admission and extended Thursday hours.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Discover Kalamazoo secured full bond sales for a new $45-million youth athletic facility along U.S. 131 near Oshtemo Township. Jane Ghosh told county commissioners the bonds were sold last week (at slightly lower interest than expected) and that fees from hotel room rentals will repay the bonds over 30 years.  WKZO

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • EB Precopio is hosting a monthly food tour called Feed Me, Kalamazoo that guides visitors to five local eateries on a three-hour walking tour; the next tour is Saturday, May 30 from 1+4 p.m. and costs $65 per person, including food and tips. Reservations are required.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Wednesday, May 20 at Garber High School in Essexville, Western replaced an injured runner by bringing in four-time champion Audrey Knochel, who helped set new records in the 4x200 and 4x100 relays while also breaking 16 seconds in the 100 hurdles during the Bay County Track Championship.  MLive
