The historic Hayloft Theatre—over 100 years old and once used for weddings and events—is being repaired after it was put at risk when a tornado hit Celery Flats on May 7; repairs costing about $107,000 are covered by insurance and the building will reopen in July.

Cable and internet services in parts of Kalamazoo and Portage are down because a storm knocked down trees, poles, and power lines—Spectrum said over 50 technicians are helping power companies repair the network—as crews work to restore service when it is safe.

Kalamazoo County declared a state of emergency after severe thunderstorms caused widespread damage and power outages on Thursday evening, and an EF-0 tornado hit Galesburg — damaging homes and trees.

The declaration lets officials mobilize extra help while the American Red Cross will deliver 50 cases of water and clean-up kits Sunday at Kalamazoo Community Church — starting at 11:00 a.m.
