  • Sprout (a three-month-old puppy with a scruffy dark coat and wizard ears) made her public debut on May 13 and is now seeking her forever home at the SPCA of Southwest Michigan. She is spayed, vaccinated, and ready for adoption.  WWMT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bell’s Beer Garden will launch its summer concert series on Friday, May 22 with The Mountain Goats returning to the stage and a June 17 Beatles-themed show by the Kalamazoo Symphony. The series will also feature sold-out performances by Saturdays at Your Place and other local acts + community events.  MLive
  • Kalapalooza festival merges Taco & Tequila Fest and Mac & Cheese Fest and will run Aug. 28-29 in Kalamazoo, offering food pairings, live music, and headliners Ying Yang Twins, Twista, Buckcherry & Sponge. Organizers say tickets may sell fast so locals should join the Official Priority List soon.  WWMT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kalamazoo Public Schools will hold an open house Monday, May 18 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at 1428 Baker Street to show plans for new El Sol School (serving K to 5 initially); students stay at 604 West Vine Street until construction finishes for the 2028 to 29 school year.  WKZO
