  • Memorial Day events will be held across West Michigan from May 22 to May 27 to honor fallen service members with parades, wreath-laying and ceremonies, including a parade in Kalamazoo on May 26—residents can select from various county events to pay their respects.  WWMT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 19-year-old woman died on May 14 when her Honda Accord veered off Almena Drive and hit a tree and she was not wearing a seat belt—police added that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the incident.  MLive

CRIME NEWS

  • Paul Teachout testified that on May 5, Tami Sue Nickles went to pick up her two dogs at her ex-boyfriend's house and he later found the scene active before police confirmed she had been fatally shot by Robert Nizzardini—who now faces charges of murder, felony firearms, and domestic violence.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Powerful gustnado winds from severe storms left over 160,000 homes and businesses without power in Michigan, with nearly 50,000 outages reported in Kalamazoo County. Consumers Energy staged more than 500 crews+ and is working overnight to restore power+ as crews respond to changing weather conditions.  MLive
  • A powerful storm swept Western Michigan between 8 p.m. Thursday and 1 a.m. Friday as meteorologist Jeff Porter said gusts reached up to 70 mph and the tornado risk increased to 5–10% in areas from South Haven — stretching from just north of Battle Creek to Coldwater. This storm brought large hail and intense winds across nearly the entire region.  WWMT
