- ➤ National Bike Month and Bike Week bring fun to Kalamazoo as a free Bike Rodeo runs today from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Other events include Friday’s Ride Your Bike to Work Day and Saturday’s mayor’s bike ride — Portage councilman Chris Burns will substitute for Mayor Patricia Randall. WKZO
- ➤ The Landing Place, a new transitional family shelter for families with children, opened in late April at (1912 E. Kilgore Service Road) and offers 77 beds while nearly 300 families wait for intake. Housing Resources Inc. handles the intakes, and wait times depend on guest turnover. MLive
- ➤ The 28th annual Roof Sit fundraiser starts today at the corner of South Westnedge and Milham in Portage — it will feature live radio broadcasts, a downtown cocktail event at The Desenberg, and a car show at dusk to raise funds and awareness for child abuse prevention until Saturday. WWMT
- ➤ Twelve Baskets is launching a food delivery program for homebound residents 60 and older. Deliveries include one box with fresh foods and one with meals high in protein that will arrive on the third Tuesday of each month between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. WWMT

- ➤ TC Scoops (a family-owned ice cream parlor) opened May 9 in Texas Township. The seasonal shop operates seven days a week from April 15 to Oct. 15 with rotating flavors, including dairy-free options, and provides first summer jobs for local teens. MLive

- ➤ Federal + state investigators are surveying severe storm damage in homes today as FEMA inspects water damage in about a dozen properties in the area. A north side resident said last month’s flooding surpassed previous storms. WKZO

- ➤ Eric Taylor, head coach at Grand Rapids Christian High School, suffered a stroke at a Detroit concert in July 2023 after a nurse spotted his FAST symptoms and called 911. Now 56 and still coaching, he urges people to act quickly if stroke signs appear (time is brain). WWMT
- ➤ Kalamazoo first-time mother Carina Klein was hospitalized for a rare autoimmune condition after giving birth in Sept. 2025. Now home on outpatient therapy at Mary Free Bed, she has removed her tracheal cap and looks forward to jogging as baby Banks grows stronger (a key recovery marker). WWMT

- ➤ Twenty top girls track athletes from Kalamazoo and nearby schools are set to compete in regional championships this week. Several athletes already qualified for state meets with record-breaking times and aim to secure additional titles at the events. MLive
