- ➤ Kalamazoo police help homeless people who are dropped off from other cities without a plan — the KDPS Community Services Team, led by Sgt. Amil Alwan, expanded this year to link them with safe housing, treatment, and transport when needed. The team steps in early to provide support for mental health and safety before problems worsen. - ➤ Channel 3 covered many local stories, reporting that protestors gathered on Saturday in Portage for a May Day National Day of Action and a family continues to recover from an EF2 tornado that struck last year. Officials announced a mistrial in a murder trial after lengthy jury deliberations & firefighters battled flames at a Coldwater RV dealership while other updates included an estate sale honoring Gene the Pumpkin Man, special election races, a new American pope with local ties and a 3-year-old who was critically injured after accidentally discharging a legally owned gun in a parked vehicle. - ➤ Two people were hospitalized after a shooting Sunday morning around 1:08 a.m. on North Westnedge near West Frank Street in Kalamazoo — police said a suspect remains at large. WWMT
- ➤ Kalamazoo police investigated a shooting on May 11 in the 700 block of North Westnedge (shortly before 1:20 a.m.) that injured two people with both expected to survive and no suspect in custody. MLive
- ➤ At 1:18 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a shooting on the 700 block of North Westnedge Avenue—two victims later went to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries while the suspect remains at large. WKZO
