BUSINESS NEWS

  • Radisson unveiled its renovated event space at 100 W. Michigan Ave. featuring a bar (with historic woodwork and nature-inspired decor) that can host up to 120 guests for events. The venue is now available for booking.  MLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Kalamazoo nearly jumped to $5—a rise of almost a dollar since last week—according to Gas Buddy. Statewide, prices increased due to a BP refinery outage and higher oil costs, and further volatility is likely.  WWMT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The only item on today's county ballot is a millage renewal to fund special education programs across nine local districts — the measure costs homeowners about $9 a month while meeting a legal requirement. Superintendent Dedrick Martin says a yes vote will not raise tax bills.  WKZO
  • Schools in Comstock, Galesburg Augusta and Vicksburg are on the ballot today with bond issues asking for $23.7M, $11.2M and $64M respectively. Voters can cast ballots (7 a.m. to 8 p.m.) while reviewing 187 millage proposals from 67 counties.  WKZO

  • MLive + Kalamazoo Gazette is hosting its fourth Athlete of the Week poll for spring sports in the area with 45 candidates from competitions held April 27 through May 2. Voters can cast votes as often as desired until 9:00 a.m. Friday, May 8.  MLive
  • The Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association released week 7 rankings on Sunday — Kalamazoo Christian jumped from No. 7 to No. 3 after wins over Allegan and Vicksburg while other Division 4 schools shifted ahead of the playoffs.  MLive
