- ➤ Kalamazoo is celebrating Bike Month in May with a full calendar of bike-friendly events for all ages that promote active living and sustainable neighborhoods. National Ride a Bike Day will be held on May 4 and two events—Bikes in the Zoo at the Kalamazoo Mall from noon to 4 p.m. and the Mayors’ Ride at the Eliason Nature Reserve at 10 a.m.—are scheduled for May 10. - ➤ The Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo on Friday announced Brush the Block, a new mural festival scheduled for September 2-7 that will feature live music and a mural painting demonstration—city officials and local building owners will help mark the festival by adding new art to public walls. - ➤ On May 2, the city issued a boil-water advisory for residents on Nassau Street between Gertrude and East Main in Kalamazoo Township—this was a precaution during infrastructure repairs that caused a temporary loss of water pressure. Residents were advised to boil tap water for two minutes or use bottled water, and officials expected initial test results within 24 to 48 hours with a full lift anticipated by May 5. MLive
