COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After Monday’s severe thunderstorms, Consumers Energy restored power for over 57,000 customers while 7,805 of 134,629 in Kalamazoo County remained without power as of Tuesday afternoon. More than 600 crews will continue working to restore power by tomorrow evening.  WKZO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Klint Pleasant, formerly senior vice president at Rochester Christian University, was introduced as the ninth president of Southwestern Michigan College at a Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce reception on Friday, Apr. 24. He brings 28 years education experience and aims to involve the Cass County community in SMC’s future.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rx Kids is expanding in Kalamazoo and Calhoun counties. Enrollment will begin on June 1 in three Kalamazoo communities and July 1 in four Calhoun areas — the program gives financial support to expectant mothers.  WKZO

  • Runners and supporters gathered in Bronson Park on Sunday, Apr. 26 for the Zeigler Kalamazoo Marathon, featuring a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K and relay races through Kalamazoo County. Spectators lined South Street as photos capture the day's local action + community energy.  MLive
