- ➤ Binder Park Zoo, which opened in 1975, celebrates 50 years as it prepares to welcome guests on May 1 with immersive exhibits and a commitment to wildlife conservation. Members will get early access tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—official admission starts on opening day. WWMT

- ➤ On April 24th, a shooting in northern Kalamazoo claimed the life of Marktavion Perry-Bennett, and Lamone Demetrius Hickman, Jr. was arraigned on April 28th on charges of open murder, felony firearm + carrying a concealed weapon + and was denied bond. MLive

- ➤ Over 20 Lincoln presenters gathered in Kalamazoo on April 25 at the Hilton Garden Inn for a Civil War Ball held by the Association of Lincoln Presenters. They came from states like California and Colorado—each using their work to bring Abraham and Mary Lincoln's legacy to life. MLive

- ➤ The Comstock Township Board voted on April 21 to censure Treasurer Sandra Bloomfield after an investigation found she used profane language during a meeting that some say created a hostile work environment—Bloomfield said she will continue serving residents with a commitment to ethical governance. - ➤ Palisades Nuclear Power Plant will restart this October in West Michigan as its owner meets licensing requirements, and FEMA has mandated 50 emergency preparedness drills across Van Buren, Allegan and Berrien counties—local fire departments and first responders are training to ensure proper decontamination procedures and vehicle inspections in case of a radioactive leak. Kalamazoo falls within the 50-mile emergency planning zone, and county officials announced a county-wide drill later this fall to coordinate efforts across all cities, villages and townships in the area.
