ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On March 19 at 1 p.m., police detailed a high-speed crash at a Speedway gas station on South Westnedge Avenue in Kalamazoo that injured seven people, damaged several vehicles, and tore a gas pump from its base, while a 49-year-old man (the suspect) was treated for injuries and his cell phone was seized (cell phone use is being investigated) as officers gather evidence. - ➤ Michigan State Police asked for public help Tuesday in finding missing Calhoun County man Bill Fairchild, 60, who was last seen on Easter Sunday at the Holiday Inn in Emmett Township and described as six-foot-three with brown eyes and gray-balding hair; anyone with information is urged to call the Marshall Post at 269-558-0500 or Calhoun County Dispatch at 269-781-0911. - ➤ Today, the WMU Board of Trustees will appoint the school’s tenth president at 2 p.m. following President Edward Montgomery’s retirement effective June 30, with the new leader set to begin his term on July 1. WWMT
- ➤ In the Michigan History Day competition held on April 19, 2023 at Central Michigan University, 158 students earned top honors in historical research—15 of them from Kalamazoo. The 70 finalists from the junior and senior divisions competed in the National History Day contest in College Park and national winners were announced on June 12, 2023. MLive

- ➤ Today, Kalamazoo city officials launched a pilot Food Scrap Recycling Program for all residents to reduce organic waste sent to landfills. The program will run through the end of 2025 and lets residents use a food-grade bucket to collect scraps, which can be dropped off at designated sites — 322 E Stockbridge Ave, Edison Neighborhood Association or Vine Neighborhood Association. - ➤ Kalamazoo Public Safety Chief David Boysen credited a balanced approach—using both outreach and enforcement—for a more than 50% drop in homicides in 2024 compared to 2023.
