  • Portage will celebrate Arbor Day with a ceremonial tree planting on Monday at 5 p.m. — a new Red Maple will replace a mature maple lost during the May 7 tornado — at City Hall. The Youth Advisory Committee will join to promote environmental stewardship.  WKZO
  • After several days of heavy rain, flood alerts remain active across West Michigan as local rivers continue to rise — the Portage River near Vicksburg is experiencing minor flooding while evacuation orders are in effect near the Muskegon River in Newaygo County, with more storms forecast tonight.  WWMT

  • Coach Shawn Strawser stepped down as head football coach at White Pigeon after eight seasons during which he ended an eight-year playoff drought and led the team to a 63 to 21 record, three district titles, and two conference championships. He said he will relax by enjoying golf + hunting.  MLive
  • Schoolcraft boys basketball coach Derrick Small will not return next season due to a personnel issue, district officials said. The coach — son of a Hall of Fame mentor — led four winning seasons that included multiple titles.  MLive
