EDUCATION NEWS

  • WMU graduate student Samuel Marseille won $100,000 for Oneshot AI, a system easing language barriers in health care, earning grand prize at the Cultivate 269 pitch competition on April 10 in Kalamazoo, and he plans to expand the technology for law enforcement and other services soon.  MLive
  • Comstock Public Schools in Comstock Township is proposing a $23.7M bond to upgrade intercoms, HVAC systems, and repair roofs on aging school buildings. The ballot proposal coming up a few weeks before Election Day would maintain the current millage rate while addressing essential safety improvements.  WWMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Apr. 14, the State House passed a bill to name the U.S. 131 stretch from I-94 to Parkview Avenue after fallen Master Sgt. Gregory T. Kuhse (1995 Comstock High graduate) who died in Afghanistan in 2015; the bill now awaits Governor Whitmer's signature.  MLive

  • A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday for the William Schma House, a low-income housing project offering 48 units plus on-site recovery services with rent capped at one-third of residents' income; officials including Governor Whitmer + Mayor Anderson attended.
