  • A French-Asian bakery and cafe from the Tous les Jours franchise is coming soon to Portage at 5721 S. Westnedge Ave. Renovation work on the 2,400 sqft building continues as the franchise expands its Michigan presence beyond Troy, Ann Arbor, and Novi.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • USGS will start a low-flying helicopter survey tomorrow in southwest Michigan — covering counties such as Kalamazoo — to map underground rocks and water supplies down to over 1,000 feet. The four-month study flies only during daylight and follows FAA rules.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Township officials are still debating NewEdge Renewable Power’s proposal to build a 260-megawatt battery storage system on leased land near West M Avenue (residential and farmland) after safety and environmental concerns were raised at an April 9 planning meeting. Approval would unlock up to $1.3 million in grants.  MLive
