- ➤ Kalamazoo Event Center is nearing enclosure as construction teams added glass panels and siding on Thursday, Apr. 9. The $515 million venue will host Broncos hockey, basketball and K-Wings events when it opens in fall 2027. MLive
- ➤ The annual CROP Hunger Walk will take place on May 3 downtown with walkers gathering at Trinity Lutheran Church to help raise funds for Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes and food security programs. Organizers noted last year’s increased turnout — a sign of community dedication to fighting hunger. WWMT

- ➤ The Kalamazoo Planning Commission approved a special use permit at 3810 E. Cork St. for QuikTrip to build one of Michigan's first locations, replacing the former Crew Family Restaurant and Bakery with a 16 pump station and a 5,312 sqft convenience store; developers will begin site planning soon. - ➤ Greg Hart transformed Yogi’s Restaurant in Vicksburg—bought in 1991 with a credit card down payment—into a local staple serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily with an extensive menu of skillets, burgers, and homemade pies. - ➤ Officials fined Doja — a Portage marijuana dispensary — $15,000 and suspended its license for 14 days after it accepted cannabis from a sister store with an expired license on Dec. 16, 2025, and the store later enhanced staff training. MLive

- ➤ Kalamazoo Public Schools approved a $2.45 million LED upgrade for 102-year-old Chenery Auditorium at 714 S. Westnedge Ave. on Wednesday, Apr. 8 — the new lights will enhance performance, lobby, and ticketing areas while offering customizable color changes before shows. MLive
- ➤ Vicksburg Community Schools is asking voters to pass a $64.1M bond on May 5 to upgrade school safety by adding secure vestibules, building a new transportation facility & other projects. The district says the millage change is designed to be tax neutral for residents. MLive

- ➤ Kalamazoo County notified the Kalamazoo Climate Crisis Coalition on Tuesday, April 7 that the $18.9M EPA grant for repairing 300 homes is canceled, and the group has secured alternative funds to continue its local energy efficiency upgrades. MLive
- ➤ Gaines Charter Township Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on April 15 at South Christian High School Auditorium to discuss Microsoft’s proposed data center (conditions include measures on electricity, water, noise, and landscaping). Residents can share input during the review process. WWMT
- ➤ Following citizen complaints, Richland police are patrolling Harding's parking lot on Gull Road to stop drivers from bypassing the traffic light at East D Ave - North 32nd and have contacted the DOT for assistance. WWMT

- ➤ Larry Bell’s Library Foundation submitted an application to transform the former Food Dance Café at 401 East Michigan Avenue into a venue featuring a 200-seat concert hall, gallery, research library and gift shop plus a multi-story addition with off-street parking and a courtyard. WWMT
- ➤ City officials approved $350,000 for Kalrecovery, a 48-unit substance recovery housing project at 333 E. Alcott St in Edison yesterday that offers affordable housing, on-site recovery services, and amenities for people overcoming substance use disorders, financed with low-income tax credits & local grants with no construction timeline announced.
