- ➤ Paul and Christy Akeo spent 32 days in a Mexican prison over a credit card dispute with a Cancun hotel— their attorney said on April 3 that they were released and are coming home to Jackson County. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Otsego Public Schools is asking voters to approve a $46.5M bond for a new high school innovation center and to convert an old elementary pool into athletic courts with a separate community entrance on Tuesday, May 6. The bond will keep the current tax rate from a prior $22.9M bond — taxes would go down if the proposal fails. MLive
- ➤ Michael Rice, a long-time Kalamazoo superintendent who began work with the Michigan Department of Education in 2019, said he will retire by Oct. 3 + he recalled the privilege of working in state education throughout his career. MLive
