  • Kalamazoo’s annual egg hunt will take place this April 19 at Mayors’ Riverfront Park from 2 to 4 p.m. where kids in two age groups will search for empty eggs to trade for candy and toys — some eggs hold a golden prize — the event will also offer games, a visit by the Bunny, and photos with Kalamazoo Growlers’ mascot Porter.  WWMT
  • Kalamazoo will host its Annual Egg Hunt at Mayors’ Riverfront Park on April 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. as Advia Credit Union and the Kalamazoo Growlers offer two age-specific hunts starting at 2:30 and 3:15 p.m. with kids trading empty eggs for candy and toys, fun themed games, and photos with the Bunny and mascot Porter—making the event a lively spring tradition.  WKZO

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 63-year-old man was killed when he was hit by a car just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday night at the intersection of Portage and Reed streets, and police said alcohol was not a factor while the driver stayed at the scene.  WKZO

  • Owners of Kazoopy’s launched Naples Calzone Co.—a ghost kitchen operating from 5030 Gull Road in Comstock Township that offers new recipe calzones for DoorDash and online orders. The new venture helped the business expand its customer base and offset rising labor costs from recent state paid sick time laws.  MLive

CRIME NEWS

  • On Wednesday, deputies responded near South Drake Road — Skyridge Avenue when a Kalamazoo woman allegedly pepper sprayed two men and stabbed one during a domestic dispute, and the alleged victim did not cooperate with the investigation.  WWMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After spending a month in a Mexican jail over a timeshare dispute, Paul and Christy Akeo—arrested in Cancun on March 4—are returning to the U.S. following U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett's video announcement from Thursday evening.  WWMT
  • Melting snow on Westnedge Avenue revealed discarded paper, food containers and plastic bags; property owners must clean up trash by April 14 or risk a $230 fine — local officials stated the rule is enforced to maintain community safety.  MLive
  • The Michigan Family Protection Act went into effect Wednesday, legalizing compensated gestational surrogacy and ending a decades-long ban in the state while allowing Nicole Honeber to become one of the first legal surrogates. Agencies now can match surrogates with families who once faced legal hardships, as seen with the Myers family who had to adopt their twins under the old law.  WWMT

  • City, state and church leaders celebrated a groundbreaking for The Legacy, a $27M two-building senior apartment complex planned to be built over the next 17 months at 730 N. Burdick Street in Kalamazoo's Northside neighborhood—Bogan Developments LLC, Edison Community Partners and Mt. Zion Baptist Church are partnering on the project.  MLive
