ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected from dinner time through midnight in West Michigan & may carry wind gusts over 60 mph with a 5% tornado risk while storm lines could reach Kalamazoo at about 7 p.m. WWMT
- ➤ Officials report that invasive purple jewelweed is spreading quickly along Chippewa County waterways and was discovered in Kalamazoo last year. The team is pulling the plants by hand before their seed pods can explode to help protect native wildflowers and reduce erosion. MLive

- ➤ Kalamazoo introduced new downtown parking rules on April 1. The downtown core now charges $2 per hour and surrounding streets $1.50 per hour with 12 blocks paid and 11 free while a 'Park. Shop. Win.' contest starts Apr. 13 (free 90-minute ramp parking remains). MLive
- ➤ Officials discovered that housing providers mistakenly classified Rx Kids payments as income at two apartment complexes in Kalamazoo, leading to retroactive rent increases—including a potential $125 monthly increase in one case.
