ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Sunday during a thunderstorm, a tree struck a vehicle in Climax Township, killing a two-year-old, a four-year-old and an 11-year-old from Calhoun County—and injuring three others. WKZO
- ➤ On March 30, a strong storm hit Southwest Michigan and a falling tree killed 3 people while a home split in half—over 130 reports of downed trees and wires were recorded as cleanup efforts began. MLive
- ➤ On March 31st, a tree fell on a car on East S Avenue west of South 47th Street, killing three children from Calhoun County—a 2-year-old girl, a 4-year-old boy, and an 11-year-old girl—and injuring three others, with one in critical condition. WWMT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A strike expected to begin today at Western Michigan University’s Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine was averted after resident physicians reached a tentative deal. The three-year contract will provide annual wage increases and a meal stipend — key measures set to help retain and attract health care professionals. WKZO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, March 31, Kalamazoo city commissioners reapproved a $1 million ARPA loan for the Legacy Senior Living facility that will soon begin construction. The project will create 70 affordable units for seniors and is expected to be finished in about 17 months. WWMT
- ➤ Kalamazoo County commissioners will hold a public hearing to consider imposing a 4% fee on large hotel customers to help fund a new youth sports complex—supporters including parents, business owners and young athletes have already voiced their approval in previous meetings before the vote. WKZO
