  • Doobie the miracle cat survived two days trapped under rubble after an EF3 tornado struck Union City on March 6 (he underwent surgery for a broken humerus and tail amputation at Bronson Veterinary Services and now awaits reunion with his owner).  MLive

  • Local businesses face higher expenses from rising fuel costs amid overseas conflict; Kazoopy’s Pizza and Grinders said delivery drivers now incur extra fuel expenses — they are receiving higher tips from supportive customers.  WWMT

  • Dr. Richard Hathaway, a longtime Comstock board trustee, defended his record on Tuesday, March 31 by disputing three recent censures and calling for clearer policies on board communications. He attributes the disputes to unclear expectations from district leadership (which he says have fueled debates over transparency and finances).  WWMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Battle Creek VA Medical Center will receive $14,497,160 for facility improvements at its Bedford Charter Township campus, with funds set to update HVAC systems, building safety, elevators & sump pumps as announced by Congressman Bill Huizenga. The allocation comes from the Veterans Health Administration’s Non-Recurring Maintenance Program.  MLive
