Good morning, Kalamazoo.

Consumers Energy received regulatory approval for its $277 million 2026 Reliability Action Plan that will secure the grid by doubling tree-trimming miles, burying more power lines, and installing 32,000 new poles.

Customers will see a $9 monthly rate increase beginning in May (with $6.75 funding grid improvements and $2.25 covering taxes and fees).

Local staff at Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport donated food + essential supplies on March 25 to support roughly two dozen unpaid TSA workers who continue their duties amid the government funding shutdown.

Heritage Community of Kalamazoo launched a three-year, $9 million Thrive Together Campaign — aiming to enhance senior living by renovating Hawthorn Landing, upgrading the Upjohn Care and Rehabilitation Center and campus spaces.

Renovations will begin in 2026 with completion expected by 2028 as community partners are invited to contribute.
