- ➤ Despite snow flurries and freezing temperatures on Monday, March 24, beer lovers lined up early at Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo to celebrate Oberon Day with the first tasting of the seasonal release. They sampled nine variants including the new Oberon Light — and enjoyed carnival games, live music, and food at a 'Midwest State Fair' themed beer tent. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ WMed resident union members announced they will strike on March 31 and April 1 after contract talks stalled and the union criticized an unchanged offer—citing a $1,500-per-year stipend and loss of retirement benefits—while WMed said its health locations will remain open. This strike vote had over 90% support among those who voted. WKZO
- ➤ The Kalamazoo Central High School Mock Trial Team won the State Championship in Lansing on Friday and Saturday and will advance to the National Tournament in Phoenix on May 8-10—continuing a tradition of success since its founding in 1986. WKZO
- ➤ Today, Kalamazoo Public Schools begin their final trimester and will change to a semester schedule this fall as superintendent Dr. Darrin Slade urges parents to check student progress via the PowerSchools Parental Portal (on the district website). WKZO

- ➤ A new Polco survey shows that residents feel important services like public safety, the economy, and utilities have low satisfaction. City CEO Laura Lam said officials will study the results over the next month and share recommendations in April. WKZO
- ➤ Three big projects will change U.S.131 in Kalamazoo County in 2025—two of which are already underway. The $19 million business loop project started at the end of February and will finish in November while the $10 million West Main Street improvements and the $24 million bridge work have led to lane and weekend closures. - ➤ On Wednesday at 3:00 p.m., a groundbreaking ceremony in Historic Northside will mark the start of a $27 million project to build 70 affordable senior housing units in two modern three-story buildings (one offering 34 one-bedroom and two two-bedroom units with community spaces and the other providing 32 one-bedroom and two two-bedroom units with a library and shared porch) as part of the City's Master Plan.
