- ➤ Josiah Loehrke, a fifth grader from El Sol Elementary School, won the Kalamazoo Regional Spelling Bee on March 15 when he correctly spelled 'equivalent' and he will represent Kalamazoo County at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May in National Harbor, Maryland. The Kalamazoo Community Foundation will cover his trip expenses. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Whitmer's fiscal 2026 budget proposal calls for raising Michigan's landfill fee from 36 cents to 5 dollars per ton over five years to cut down on Canadian trash and pay for pollution cleanups. The plan would direct 45% of the extra revenue, estimated at 80 million dollars annually, to local communities and cleanup work. MLive
