- ➤ Amore is a 4-month-old puppy at the SPCA of Southwest Michigan who is looking for a forever home. The playful dog—described as a big boy by SPCA Executive Director Katie Timber—does well with children and other dogs and was filmed on March 14th at News Channel 3's studio. WWMT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Members of the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team and Crime Reduction Team seized distribution amounts of cocaine, drug sales evidence and a large sum of cash after executing a search warrant on the 1500 block of Woodward Avenue Thursday, and a 33-year-old male suspect is now facing multiple felony charges. - ➤ Police said a parking lot fight on West Main Street led to shots fired from a handgun on Friday, March 14 at 7 p.m.—stray bullets hit two nearby buildings while no one was hurt and investigators believe the suspects were known to each other. MLive
- ➤ An 18-year-old Kalamazoo man was arrested after allegedly leading Calhoun County deputies on a chase exceeding 150 mph on Interstate 94 near Albion on Saturday, March 15th — fake driver’s licenses were recovered. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Josiah Loehrke, a fifth grader from El Sol Elementary, won the Kalamazoo Regional Spelling Bee at Lindon Grove Middle School after 11 rounds and will represent Kalamazoo in the 100th Scripps National Spelling Bee semifinals in May — Penelope Bayer of Milwood Magnet School finished as runner-up. - ➤ On March 8, 100 fifth graders and 100 eighth graders attended Saturday School at Edison Academy where teachers provided extra help in math and English to fill long-term gaps caused by the pandemic. The program runs for five weeks and ends on March 22 - students who attend 75% of classes earn a free trip. MLive

- ➤ The WMed Firehouse Clinic at 526 N. Burdick St. in downtown Kalamazoo offers free checkups and medical exams to homeless and low-income patients. It opened on March 14—now it sees about five patients each day and will be open the first and third Friday of every month from 1 to 4:30 p.m. as services may expand in the future. MLive
