  • Dormouse Theatre in Edison repurposes a 158-year-old church—transforming it into a hub for socially conscious plays, dance classes and music events. The next showing of “Hair” is scheduled for weekends in March.  MLive
  • Amy Williams has been appointed as the new president and CEO of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra; she comes from Savannah, Georgia, where she served as CEO of the Savannah Philharmonic since 2020 and replaces Jessica Mallow Gulley, who left in Oct. 2025 to join the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.  WKZO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ronda Stryker, a billionaire director at Stryker Corporation, will join WMU's Board of Trustees on Jan. 1, 2027 + Catalyst Development LLC is building a $515 million downtown arena planned to host WMU sports and events.  MLive
  • Kalamazoo Public Schools reported Thursday a historic graduation rate of 77.35% in the district, up 11.5% from the previous year. All student groups, including African American and Hispanic girls and students with disabilities, showed improvement at local high schools.  WWMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Terri DeBoer, a longtime local meteorologist, announced her congressional candidacy on Thursday after years reporting for Kalamazoo TV stations like WOOD-TV and FOX-17, challenging the district seat held by Rep. Scholten.  WWMT
  • Parking rates in downtown will change in April when on-street parking costs $2 an hour in the central core and $1.50 in nearby blocks while free 90-minute parking continues at the Epic Center and Kalamazoo Mall ramps, and 15-minute merchandise pickup zones are added; metered parking begins daily at 10 a.m.  WKZO
