CULTURE NEWS

  • Kalamazoo Public Library will unveil a bust honoring African-American builder Albert White, whose firm built key historical sites including the third high school and Borgess Hospital. The ceremony is scheduled for Friday at 4:00 p.m. in the Van Deusen Room.  WKZO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former bus driver Sarah Robinson is suing Mattawan Consolidated School District for religious discrimination after being fired in April for giving candy bags with Christian messages and a Jewish-themed option on holidays; she seeks reinstatement and damages and claims she followed supervisor instructions (the investigation did not review key evidence).  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Kalamazoo is in Design It! phase of Imagine Kalamazoo 2035 and invites residents to open house meetings on housing, parks, and transportation. A session is today at Stuart and Douglas (Woodward Elementary, 6–8 p.m.) with a draft Strategic Vision next month and a Master Plan for fall.  WWMT
