- ➤ Baby Timothy Carter Kilmartin was born at Bronson BirthPlace in Kalamazoo at 12:19 a.m. Jan. 1 to parents Demi and Pete Kilmartin; he is named after his late grandfather (a nod to family history) and is the first newborn of 2026. MLive
- ➤ Kalamazoo’s Bronson Birthplace welcomed Timothy Kilmartin at 12:19 a.m. on New Year's Day as the first baby of 2026 in west Michigan; other local hospitals also reported healthy newborns and mothers + all are doing well. WKZO
- ➤ Echo Valley has reopened for winter under new ownership (Hank and Sarah Avink), who repaired termite damage and updated eight toboggan runs. The facility on H Avenue overlooking Campbell Lake is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. all weekend. WKZO

- ➤ Health officials reported a rise in flu cases after the holiday season in West Michigan when Bronson Healthcare observed more positive cases and urged those feeling sick to stay home — wash hands to slow the spread.
