ENVIRONMENT NEWS

- ➤ In 2025, West Michigan faced active weather as March 30 storms produced 14 tornadoes and widespread outages plus a summer drought and heavy November snowfall affected communities while bright northern lights shone in September and November plus unexpected rains relieved drought conditions. WWMT
- ➤ City staff responded to a sewer overflow at a manhole on Sunnock Avenue on Tuesday, removing a blockage (at 2:41 p.m.) and remediating the area after roughly 300 gallons spilled into the storm sewer system; officials said they notified the Michigan Department of Environmental, Great Lakes and Energy and county environmental unit as required. - ➤ Kalamazoo City Commission approved two housing initiatives on Dec. 15 to address recovery needs, including a 48-unit development at 333 E.
